Malva sylvestris L

Malva sylvestris, also known as common or wild mallow, is a medicinal plant that is so valuable for its many properties that it is often used for medicinal or dietary purposes. It is known for its strong emollient, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

EPO’s Mallow extract is produced from dried leaves, harvested at the balsamic time to get the highest yield in active compounds: polysaccharides, polyphenols, flavonoids and carotenoids.
Polysaccharides are polymeric carbohydrates with protective and energy reserve functions.
Mucilages are a sub-group of polysaccharides, mainly responsible for the biological effects. When a mucilage is mixed with water it swells to many times its original volume, forming a gel matrix that can adhere to epithelial tissues.

Action

GASTRO-INTESTINAL SYSTEM: The mucilaginous-gel matrix is essential for bio-adhesion and in-situ activity, exerting bulk laxative effects, and emollient and soothing properties on inflammatory conditions of the digestive and urinary tracts. There are some evidences that support the use of mucilages as prebiotics.

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM: Mallow has traditionally been used for the oral and upper respiratory tract disturbances thanks to its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, cough suppressant and bio-adhesion properties. It is also used in case of dysphonia to improve the tone of voice.

EPO’s Mallow extract is distributed in Spain by Deltapharma, part of Faravelli Group.
